How to : Flour a Cake Pan.
As my own little kiddos start helping more and more in the kitchen, there are so many things I remember learning for the first time from my own childhood.
You never know what simple "first" your kids will remember forever and call back to down the road. Our new "Made from Scratch" series was inspired by this notion and is comprised of basic "Kitchen 101" how-to tips for the fundamentals of cooking, baking, entertaining and more.
Today I'm sharing a few tips and tricks for properly flouring a cake pan as part of our Made From Scratch video series. Because as any seasoned baker knows, it's the little nuances that make all the difference when baking from scratch.
HOW TO : FLOUR A CAKE PAN
- Begin by gathering your cake pan, flour and a grease, such as lard, butter or oil. Before you begin ensure that your cake pan is completely dry, as drips of water will inhibit a nice, cleanly coated pan.
- Start by lightly greasing the entire surface area of your cake pan. I generally use whatever grease or oil is actually being used in the recipe since it’s already handy and tear off a small piece of wax paper or paper towel to spread it evenly across the surface of the plan. Be sure to grease the tiny crevasse of the pan as well as the bottom and sides of the pan.
- Pour a small pile of flour into the center of pan, lightly shaking and tossing it around the pan to coat the entire pan with flour. Ensure you tilt and tap the pan around so all areas, including the sides of the pan are coated completely.
