Stringing a Traditional Cranberry Garland.

Stringing a Traditional Cranberry Garland

It might surprise you to know I’m not the craftiest person around. But I do love the traditional crafts oh-so-much. At the holidays there is nothing as classic as stringing up some cranberries into a fresh garland so Iโ€™m sharing a few tips for making yours perfect.

The Cord + The Cranberries

Get a hefty cord, I used a heavy weight waxed cord used for jewelry making and a needle with a larger eye for ease of stringing the cranberries. Be sure to use a thimbleย to protect your fingers because the cranberries make threading carefully a bit unpredictable!

Other Ingredients

Once you’ve strung on your cranberries,ย ย add some other ingredients for color and variety!ย A few classics are orange slices, cinnamon sticks, and — of course —ย popcorn. Personally,ย I attempted the popcorn without much luck. If youโ€™re going to try, be sure to pop it and let it sit overnight before stringing so itโ€™s not so brittle that it cracks and breaks right off. Also, be sure you donโ€™t have a dog nearby or within reach… that just makes everything more difficult!

The cranberries will naturally dry up a bit as the days grow closer and closer to Christmas but I think they still look fresh and beautiful for the season. I just love the way the fresh garland looks scattered around the house or on the Christmas tree.

I’d love to see how your garland turns out!
