Herb Garden Mint Julep Jars.

It’s that special time of year where entertaining is at its peak, thanks to all this beautiful weather and sunshine. And today I’m celebrating with a fresh, seasonal cocktail recipe I love, the mint julep.

Herb Garden Mint Julep Jars

One of my favorite products, Ball® Mason Jars teamed up with Domino Magazine for a fun event in Nashville recently to showcase the #ManyUsesofMason and although I wasn’t able to make the trip (though I’m planning one soon, stay tuned!)  I could certainly relate to the challenge. I use Ball Jars for everything from packaging for some of my products, to air-tight pantry storage, DIY floral vases and cute entertaining for drinks at any event or party.

Today I’m teaming up with my friends at Ball® to share a seasonal recipe for Herb Garden Mint Julep Jars. It’s my take on the Southern classic and instead of drinking them out of the refined silver julep cups we’ve all grown to love, I’m sharing an effortless update on this entertaining essential.

My herb garden is going absolutely crazy right now and my sprawling mint is nearly covering all the beds in my front garden after just three years of planting them. It makes for a beautiful and fragrant ground cover but beware as it will certainly takeover your garden if you let it.

Because the star of this cocktail is the beautiful mint leaf, serving them in the clear Ball® jars is the perfect way to let them shine. I love the Quilted Jam Jars for serving individual glasses to my guests and the Wide Mouth Quart Sized Jars for storing my Mint Simple Syrup to keep on hand.

Here’s a classic take on one of my favorite Southern signature cocktails, the Mint Julep.

Herb Garden Mint Julep Jars.

  • Author: Heirloomed Collection

Description

This beautiful cocktail encapsulates summertime and sunshine into one glass.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ parts Bourbon
  • 2 springs fresh Mint
  • 2 TBSP mint simple syrup
  • Splash of cold water
  • 1 tsp powdered sugar
  • Crushed ice

Instructions

  1. Pluck the leaves from one spring of mint to fill the bottom of your larger jar.
  2. Add mint simple syrup. Using a muddler, end of a wooden spoon, or rolling pin, muddle together your mint leaves with simple syrup, bourbon and water.
  3. Fill your small jar with crushed ice and pour mixture over on top.
  4. Sift powdered sugar on top and garnish with remaining spring of mint. Enjoy!

A little tip, if you don’t have good crushed ice at your house simply take ice cubes and seal in a bag then hit them gently with a rolling pin to break them up into perfect little pieces for your drink.

I hope you’ll try your hand at this easy and delicious cocktail recipe. Grab all the Ball® Mason Jars you need over at your local Target for a great selection (and you can even use the Ibotta app to get money back when you shop. See here for more details on using the app).

I’d also love to see your #ManyUsesforMason and how you’re using (and re-using) your Ball® Mason Jars in your own home. I’ve always wondering how folks are re-using the jars from our aprons so please be sure to share!
