Garden Fresh Mint Juleps.

It’s that special time of year where entertaining is at its peak, thanks to all this beautiful weather and sunshine. And today I’m celebrating with a fresh, seasonal cocktail recipe. With the Kentucky Derby right around the corner, a Mint Julep seemed like the perfect fit.

The key ingredient to a Mint Julep is fresh mint (well, and bourbon …). Luckily, my herb garden is going absolutely crazy right now and my sprawling mint is nearly covering all the beds in my front garden. It does makes for a beautiful and fragrant ground cover, but beware as it will certainly takeover your garden if you let it.

I came across these amazing vintage julep cups in one of my favorite vintage shops in Chamblee, GA. They are just perfect for serving Mint Juleps in year-round, but especially for the tradition of the Kentucky Derby.

Food Network Star, Damaris Phillips' new show Southern at Heart. {and a Giveaway!}

Southern at Heart logo

I love watching the Food Network, but imagine my surprise a few weeks back when I spotted one of my new heirloomed aprons pop up on the screen. In disbelief I hit rewind on the DVR and sure enough, there it was! Chef Damaris Phillips, the latest winner of Food Network Star was wearing the heirloomed Halter Apron on the trailer for her new show, Southern at Heart.

I absolutely love that she is celebrating the love of Southern food and spreading her Kentucky roots for all to see. In the second episode this morning, Damaris prepared a lovely Fall breakfast spread, including two of my favorites {quiche & granola} AND was wearing the apron during the whole episode - how exciting. She wears it so beautifully and couldn't imagine a more wonderful, Southern model for the apron. She picked her apron up at a store we work with in Louisville, KY called The Urban Farmhouse Market, and was also kind enough to wear it for her cooking demos last week at the New York Food & Wine Festival.

If you haven't tuned in yet to watch Southern at Heart, I hope you'll tune in next Sunday at 10:30AM est to catch the latest episode and support Damaris!

In celebration of the TV debut, we are hosting a giveaway this week of our heirloomed Halter Apron, the same style worn by Damaris on the show! You have until 11/10/13 12AM to enter to win - best of luck!
