Vintage Chocolate-Dipped Stir Spoons.

One of the very best gifts during the holiday season are food gifts. I love holiday cooking + baking and then gifting the goodies to our co-workers, friends + neighbors, or bringing a bundle to a holiday party as a hostess gift.

This is one of my favorites, it’s a vintage spin on an idea I’ve seen floating around out there on Pinterest - Chocolate Dipped Stir Spoons. They’re great for stirring into your cup of cocoa or coffee and a sweet little gift, but I’m making them even more beautiful by using vintage spoons instead of the plastic ones. Take a peek.

The best thing about these sweet little spoon gifts is that they really look like a million bucks without spending a ton of time or money. If you hit up a thrift store or local market, you can generally find silver-plated utensil for a dollar or less a piece.

Simply give them a polish, dip in almond bark and sprinkle on your favorite chopped topping. We used a variety of nuts, pistachios + peppermints to give ours a festive look. You could even pair it with a “hot chocolate mix” in a jar and one of our holiday tea towels or an apron of course and you have a beautiful gift to go.

CHOCOLATE STIR SPOONS:

  • white chocolate almond bark

  • chocolate almond bark

  • peppermint sticks

  • nuts of your choice

Start by gathering up the spoons you would like to use. Then begin melting your chocolate bark in a sauce pan, or in the microwave. When using the microwave I like to heat it in 30 second intervals, stirring in between, to make sure the chocolate is melting smoothly and evenly. While your chocolates are melting crush up your peppermint sticks, nuts, or topping of your choice.

.Once the chocolate is melted dip each spoon slowly into the chocolate allowing it to cover the base of the spoon. Using your finger tips cover the tip of the spoon with the crushed toppings. Lay each spoon flat on a baking sheet and allow to dry. Use your spoons in your favorite hot cocoa recipe and enjoy.

Classic Eggnog.

Sometimes trying out new ingredients in recipes is fun, but for Eggnog I like to stick to this simple + classic recipe. It’s so easy to make and the perfect holiday drink to serve at all of my holiday gatherings.

Eggnog takes a developed taste to enjoy the drink, but once you master this recipe it is something you will look forward to every holiday season.

I just love how pretty and wintery eggnog looks visually. Topped with foam + fresh nutmeg it really is winter in a cup. You can add in the bourbon in true Southern fashion, or leave it out and get just as much enjoyment in the non-alcoholic version thanks to the richness of the drink.

CLASSIC EGGNOG:

  • 3 cups whole milk

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • 3 cinnamon sticks

  • 1 vanilla bean pod – split and with the seeds removed

  • 1 teaspoon fresh nutmeg

  • 5 eggs, separated

  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar

  • 3/4 cup dark rum or bourbon

Combine milk, cream, cinnamon, vanilla bean, vanilla seeds and nutmeg in a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Once boiling, remove pan from the heat and allow it to steep.

Using a stand mixer or a large bowl, beat egg yolks and sugar until combined. Thick ribbons should form when the whisk is lifted. Slowly begin whisking in the milk and continue until mixture is smooth and combined. Add rum or bourbon and stir. Refrigerate overnight, up to three days.

Right before serving, beat egg whites, in a bowl or stand mixer, until soft peaks form. Fold mixture gently into eggnog until combined. Garnish with fresh nutmeg before serving.

I loved using one of my vintage punch bowls to serve this eggnog. It gives it such a nostalgic feeling and serves as the perfect holiday decoration all in of itself. The garnish of cinnamon sticks, a sprinkle of nutmeg and a dollop of fresh whipped cream just brings a little more joy. Let me know in the comments if you stick to classic eggnog or if you put any fun twists on your recipe.

Herb Garden Mint Julep Jars.

It’s that special time of year where entertaining is at its peak, thanks to all this beautiful weather and sunshine. And today I’m celebrating with a fresh, seasonal cocktail recipe.

One of my favorite products, Ball® Mason Jars teamed up with Domino Magazine for a fun event in Nashville recently to showcase the #ManyUsesofMason and although I wasn’t able to make the trip (though I’m planning one soon, stay tuned!)  I could certainly relate to the challenge. I use Ball Jars for everything from packaging for some of my products, to air-tight pantry storage, DIY floral vases and cute entertaining for drinks at any event or party.

Today I’m teaming up with my friends at Ball® to share a seasonal recipe for Herb Garden Mint Julep Jars. It’s my take on the Southern classic and instead of drinking them out of the refined silver julep cups we’ve all grown to love, I’m sharing an effortless update on this entertaining essential.

My herb garden is going absolutely crazy right now and my sprawling mint is nearly covering all the beds in my front garden after just three years of planting them. It makes for a beautiful and fragrant ground cover but beware as it will certainly takeover your garden if you let it.

Because the star of this cocktail is the beautiful mint leaf, serving them in the clear Ball® jars is the perfect way to let them shine. I love the Quilted Jam Jars for serving individual glasses to my guests and the Wide Mouth Quart Sized Jars for storing my Mint Simple Syrup to keep on hand.

Here’s a classic take on one of my favorite Southern signature cocktails, the Mint Julep.

Herb Garden Mint Julep Jars

  • 1 ½ parts Bourbon

  • 2 springs fresh Mint

  • 2 TBSP mint simple syrup

  • Splash of cold water

  • 1 tsp powdered sugar

  • Crushed ice

Pluck the leaves from one spring of mint to flil the bottom of your larger jar. Add mint simple syrupand using a muddler or end of a wooden spoon or rolling pin, muddle together your mint leaves with simple syrup, bourbon and water. Fill your small jar with crushed ice and pour mixture over on top. Sift powdered sugar on top and garnish with remaining spring of mint. Enjoy!

A little tip, if you don’t have good crushed ice at your house simply take ice cubes and seal in a bag then hit them gently with a rolling pin to break them up into perfect little pieces for your drink.

I hope you’ll try your hand at this easy and delicious cocktail recipe. Grab all the Ball® Mason Jars you need over at your local Target for a great selection (and you can even use the Ibotta app to get money back when you shop. See here for more details on using the app).

I’d also love to see your #ManyUsesforMason and how you’re using (and re-using) your Ball® Mason Jars in your own home. I’ve always wondering how folks are re-using the jars from our aprons so please be sure to share!

Rustic Holiday Entertaining at the Family Farm.

If you were to ask me my favorite season it would surely be Summer, but the tradition, smells + bells of the holiday season make Winter such a strong contender. At least the 4-5 true weeks of holiday celebration between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Today I'm out at my husband's family farm to set up a rustic Holiday Tablescape, perfect for Christmas Dinner at the old barn at the front of the property.

The first time I saw the old barn I knew it was my most favorite place on the whole property. A tack + feed room, hay loft, resident cat and fresh coat of white paint on the old wooden walls make this building an easy contender in my book.

You know I'm a neutral lover to the extreme but the holidays are my one exception where I bring in a pop of red to celebrate the season. One of my very favorite ways to decorate for the holidays is to let my simple backgrounds + bones set the tone while layering on heavy swags of fresh green garland and scattering in a pop of red here and there. This rustic set up at the farm was no exception.

This year I went with a mix of fresh evergreen swags, magnolia boughs from my backyard (because, it's holiday time in the South after all) and a heavy scattering of pomegranates + sprinkling of cranberry strands for that pop of color. I love the rich red color of the fruit and the fresh element of bringing fruits + veggies into the floral elements, a signature touch I tend to lean on over and over again.

For a Christmas Dinner table, you'll want to be sure to bring in a variety of pieces new and old. That's the best part of the holiday season, reliving and recreating those traditions from your childhood and creating brand new ones for your own children. Some, perhaps without you even knowing.

Here I'm mixing our go-to heirloomed oatmeal linens, the rustic White Lastra Collection dinnerware from Vietri, and several pieces of showstopper Match Pewter. Because I was fort nature to have been handed down both my grandmother + great grandmother's wedding china, we instead registered for nice dinnerware and continue to collect pewter table service pieces each anniversary to support our entertaining habits. And what better holiday to bring it all out for the family.

Now if you know anything about me or have followed along here for any amount of time, you know that equally important to tradition during the holiday season are those made-from-scratch handwritten recipes that my family has been making for generations. Filling the holiday table and my own kitchen with the same aromas and flavors that I remember from my childhood is absolutely essential for making the season special.

The exception to the rule, somehow, has always been the HoneyBaked Ham. We step outside the kitchen and have always had a perfectly glazed ham on the table during the holidays, bringing both beauty, ease and flavor to the table like no other. My kids + husband are all on the bandwagon year after year with this yummy staple.

We completed the spread this season with a rustic loaf of bread + butter, freshly roasted asparagus, and a big bowl of burst red potatoes. All delicious and all playing to the gorgeous color of the season.

These guys were looking on and wondering when they were going to get to partake in the holiday meal. Luckily we made it through the meal without any animal guests this time around, but past set ups haven't been so fortunate.

I hope you enjoyed the holiday tablescape and would love to know some elements, tips and touches you're using for your Christmas table setting + spread this holiday season. Merry Christmas!

Special thank you to HoneyBaked Ham, Vietri + Match Pewter for your partnership on this shoot. These are brands I authentically use in my own life + home and ones I support (and hope you will too). All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Simple Blessings.

I'm thrilled to share with you a new Collection that has been a long-time in the works over here. The Simple Blessings Collection was inspired by the first prayers we learn around the table, giving thanks and blessing each meal we sit down for.

My little kiddos are young and so we are knee deep in learning the basic prayers, both at mealtime and bed time. Through this collection I tried to capture a variety of basic blessings, some that are more classic, like "God is Great" and "The Lords Prayer," and others that are perhaps a bit more catchy and rhyming for little ones like "Thank You" and "Come, Lord Jesus."

The set of 4 dinner napkins comes with one each of four blessings, and the table runner features a line that sums up the collection as a whole :

"Thank you for the food before us, the family beside us and the love between us."

I am so happy to be putting this special collection out there, especially right before the holidays and most especially for me with my kiddos the ages they are. It was truly inspired by them and where we are in life right now so I hope you can enjoy these as much has we will in our own home.

And, don't forget to check out my new #familysupper series over on the blog, the perfect accompaniment to these linens for sitting down with your family around the table and creating your own memories in every day moments.

I would so love to know what special blessings you and your family love to say at mealtimes.  #HEIRLOOMED
